AFIA updates guidance in light of ASF

Preliminary research shows that the ASF virus might be able
to be transmitted via feed, “There’s some evidence to show it can survive a
transboundary or across the ocean journey. Having known that, we went back and reviewed
the documents and recommendations that we had and wanted to re-release those.”

Davis says the AFIA wants to encourage communication within the industry and one of the big things they did is add a definition of biosecure, “There was not an existing regulatory definition for that so we wanted to work with our industry partners, particularly on the pork side, and give that some definition and put that in print in our guide.” He says that definition is part of fostering a culture of
feed safety first.
